Growing A Pair
This installation presents a delicate arrangement of metal sculptures placed in tension with other objects. It interprets the saying “to grow a pair”, which denotes a masculine undertone of being strong, confident, acting courageously, especially
after failing to do something. In this work, Aki articulates an embodiment that is nonbinary, consensual, and not defined by
a biological or physical condition.
Growing a Pair illustrates an intimate view of the physical and psychical dissonance, where invisible translations of bodily experience outgrow the human form.
